Computer Engineering is now present in virtually every domain of society, from e-commerce to healthcare, from transportation to finance, from sustainable mobility to artificial intelligence. At a time when data, automation, and intelligent systems are redefining how organisations operate, training engineers capable of designing secure, efficient, and sustainable solutions has never been more critical.

The MEI is aimed at working professionals and recent graduates who wish to deepen their knowledge in key areas of computer engineering. It is built on a model of conceiving, designing, implementing, and operating real systems, and is one of the few master's programmes in Portugal with ABET accreditation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool, not an end.
AI alone does not solve problems: the challenge lies in integrating it judiciously into solutions with real impact. It is this combination of specialisation, critical thinking, and AI that makes the difference in a professional career. The deeper the technical expertise, the greater the ability to apply AI to solutions that truly matter.

Five areas of specialisation

An accredited programme connected to the market

A master's degree with triple international accreditation (ABET, EUR-ACE, and A3ES), attesting to the quality of teaching in science and engineering. The specialisations are not isolated silos. You can take courses from other areas and benefit from cross-pollination between them, since real-world challenges rarely fit within a single discipline.

The project, internship, or dissertation is carried out in a business environment or at research centres, working on real problems proposed by partner companies (such as Blip, Farfetch, Critical Manufacturing, Critical TechWorks, Natixis, or Wipro) and by leading laboratories and research groups (INESC TEC, GECAD, CISTER, ISRC, GILT, among others). Research

O ISEP acolhe grupos de investigação de referência nacional e internacional, como o INESC TEC (afiliado), o GECAD, CISTER, o GILT e o ISRC, e colabora com parceiros como a Associação Fraunhofer Portugal Research, o CIDES e o Serviço de Informática da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto, a Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto, o ISCAP, a Haute École d?Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud (Suíça) e o laboratório Le2I (França). Podes desenvolver o teu trabalho final integrado numa destas equipas, contribuindo para projetos de I&D e, se for esse o teu caminho, dando o primeiro passo rumo ao doutoramento.

In the final semester you choose your path: you can pursue an academic dissertation, a company project, or a research internship. In any case, you leave the master's programme with hands-on experience and an already established professional network.

This master’s degree gives you the foundation to grow throughout your career, keeping pace with the rapid evolution of technology and artificial intelligence. Many students begin their professional activity while still enrolled, as the programme schedule is designed to balance study and work.

Am I eligible to apply?

You can apply to the master's programme if you are:

• Holder of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent.

• A final-year bachelor's student, but on a conditional basis, and must submit proof of completion by the last day of the enrolment deadline for the phase applied to, under penalty of exclusion.

• Holder of a foreign higher education degree awarded after a 1st cycle of studies organised according to the Bologna principles, by an adhering State.

• Holder of a foreign higher education degree recognised by the ISEP Scientific-Technical Council (CTC) as equivalent to a bachelor's degree.

• Holder of an academic, scientific, and professional curriculum recognised by the ISEP Scientific-Technical Council (CTC) as sufficient to access the study cycle leading to the Master's degree.
